IRRITABLE BOWEL SYNDROME / IBS

In February 2008 the National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE), which gives guidance to the NHS on effective treatments, published guidance for GPs and consultants saying there was good evidence that hypnotherapy for IBS treatment is effective and that it could be recommended for chronic IBS.
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a common gut disorder including the bowel.
Symptoms can be quite variable and include;
- Tummy pain
- Bloating
- Wind
and sometimes bouts of:
- Diarrhoea and/or
- Constipation.
Other symptoms sometimes occur and include:
- Feeling sick
- Headache
- Belching
- Poor appetite
- Tiredness
- Backache
- Muscle pains
- Feeling excessively full after eating
- Heartburn
- Bladder symptoms.
Symptoms tend to come and go.
